Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - WAFC

Friday, March 13, 2020 - 10:37 AM

Please see below in regard to the West Australian Football Commission & its position in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) & the relevant precautions being undertaken across football moving forward. This information was circulated yesterday via email to the primary contact on SportsTG to all clubs:

The WAFC has been keeping across the health warnings regarding COVID-19 through information provided by the WA Health Department, the Federal Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and updates from the AFL. As an industry, we wanted to share the information we have gathered and also advise that the WAFC has set up an internal risk management working group to take a proactive approach on what some of the challenges will be as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to increase. As we work through what those challenges are, and ask ourselves some relevant questions to consider, we will be sharing this with you as an opportunity for you to consider what actions you may need to take within your own community.

The risk management working group will be looking at how we enable and support community football continuity plans, contingency plans in the event that the State or Federal Government ban mass gatherings, and what measure we can put in place to try to minimise the spread of the virus within our football community. As always, the welfare of our people (players, umpires, parents and volunteers) is at the forefront of our actions.

In collating the information from the sources we have to date, please find attached the following for your consideration:

WAFC - Coronavirus Update 110320

Please feel free to share any of this information within your own football community and reach out if you have any specific queries that we may be able to help you with.

It is important to note the current advice from Government is that we are operating in a business as usual environment and that includes people attending major events or sporting matches. Whilst we are taking a business as usual approach, the more preventative measures we take, and the more proactive we can be as an industry, will better place us if/when the situation escalates.

Whilst we are going to be continuing to provide you with updates on the actions that the WAFC are initiating, you should also continue to keep updated through the WA and Federal Government links as provided above.
